1

Backlight Bleed (Hardware)

Occurs when the bezel frame pinches the LCD matrix, allowing internal LED light to spill around the edges. Bleed does not shift with viewing angles.

2

IPS Glow (Optical)

A natural physical characteristic of In-Plane Switching liquid crystals. IPS glow changes in intensity and moves when you change your viewing angle.

3

OLED Infinite Contrast

OLED and AMOLED screens have zero backlight bleed and zero IPS glow because each pixel produces its own light and powers off completely.

How to Accurately Test for Backlight Bleed

  1. Turn Off Ambient Room Lights: Backlight bleed is only noticeable in dark or dimly lit rooms.
  2. Set Normal Brightness: Calibrate your display to 120–150 nits (roughly 30% to 50% brightness on most gaming monitors) rather than 100% max.
  3. Enter Fullscreen Mode: Click the viewport above or press F.
  4. Step Back 3–4 Feet: Look straight at the center of the panel. Light bleeding will appear as static yellowish or white plumes escaping from the frame edges.
